The USA PATRIOT Act is an Orwellian acronym for the legislation Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 that was passed almost unanimously by the Senate and House shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Despite its name, it has nothing to do with patriotism and everything to do with infringing more easily on the rights of people.
