The Snow Penis story questioned Manwich's principles, showed us that Ian can spin anything into a spirited conversation, Johnson can get extremely agitated when people seemingly violate their own principles, and that this topic can be beaten to death in a few weeks - even a Phallus.
The controversy originated in a news story about a teenage girl who had built a snow penis on her boyfriend's lawn. When she wasn't home, police came onto the property and knocked the snow penis down. Ian was outraged, citing property rights violations, whereas Manwhich thought the people who built the snow penis were jerks, and therefore "didn't care".
The issue was discussed repeatedly for several weeks, becoming a debate about whether or not principles should always be followed. Ian believed they do, whereas Manwhich stated he doesn't care about others property rights if they're using them in ways that offend him. He gave examples, stating that if a neighbor posted a giant picture of his naked mother on the outside wall of the house, he would storm onto the persons property and tear the picture down.
Among the FTL hosts and fans, "a snow penis" now refers to an issue where you're willing to act in violation of your principles, with "What's your snow penis?" becoming a catch phrase among users of the BBS.
