Self-ownership is the concept of the individual being sovereign over their life, liberty, and property. This means that a person has the final authority regarding how they control their own body and life. No higher or outside power should have that ability. This is the central principle of libertarianism.

When applied rationally and consistently, self-ownership leads to a rejection of drug prohibition, taxation, and other violations of the individual's sovereignty.
