The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade group that represents the recording industry in the United States. They're quite angry about technology advancing and music being so freely available in digital format. As a result, they end up suing their customers for downloading music, and generally push for draconian legislation aiming to quash the use of your music as you see fit. The RIAA is pretty much equally hated by everyone except for their members in the recording industry.
