Socialist People's Republic of Maine is a big state to the north east of our beloved New Hampshire. It is also bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and French-speaking Québec. It's the only one of the fifty states that is more densely forested than NH.

While some believe, due to obvious geographic circumstances, that political liberation of Maine is a prerequisite for Free State Project's long-term future, prospects in that area have until recently been slim. In February 2007, Maine became the first state to formally reject the federal Real ID program.
