Ludwig von Mises (1881-1973) was born in Lemberg, Galicia, Austria. Mises later on in life began deep studying in the phenomenon of economic growth, free markets, affects of credit expansion, and human action. He studied the economic teachings of Carl Menger and Eugen von Böhm-Bawerk, both famous contributors to the Austrian School of Economics. Mises would come to influence modern libertarian economic theory with his adherence to the gold standard and free markets. Mises built upon the Austrian School in the 20th century and brought it back from almost certain failure in the marketplace of ideas. His masterworks include but are not limited to the Anti-Capitalist Mentality, Socialism, Theory of Money and Credit, Omnipotent Government, Planning for Freedom, Theory and History, Bureaucracy, with Human Action being his most revered treatise.
