José Padilla is a United States citizen convicted of aiding terrorists. He was arrested in Chicago on May 2, 2002 and named an "enemy combatant", transferring him to a military prison. He remained in military prison and had his habeas corpus right denied for years. On January 3, 2006 he was transferred to civilian prison in Miami, Florida. On August 16, 2007 he was found guilty by a federal jury.

His legal team alleged Padilla had been subjected to torture including sensory deprivation, sleep deprivation, stress positions, and drugs possibly including LSD and PCP.
