Interventionism, also known as a mixed economy or a hampered market, is an economic system in which the means of production are partly owned by the government, partly by private actors. Interventionism is carachterized by the government being larger than its by libertarians accepted functions, that is, government being involved in the economy through taxation or regulation. Interventionism should not be understood as a mix of Socialism and Capitalism, but rather as a system of its own. Critics of Interventionism include Ayn Rand, Murray Rothbard, George Reisman and Ludwig von Mises.
