Hurricane Katrina hit southeast Louisiana in August, 2005. It caused the levee system to fail and New Orleans was flooded, causing catastrophic damage.
Government was rightfully criticized for the federally built levees failing and the bungled response by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, including gun confiscation.
