Famine

Famines are very rare in Capitalist societies, but can still affect the people who for whatever reason cannot sufficiently compete in the marketplace to secure reliable access to food and water, and cannot acquire credit. An effective capitalist society should try to help those people voluntarily, through well-organized charity, to greatly reduce risks of destabilization due to the Robin Hood complex - violence for collective altruism.
It is ironic that in Socialist societies famines have historically happened more frequently, and on a much larger scale, either due to screwed up central planning or a deliberate effort to control the population. Socialist tyrants have noticed that after a person experiences famine, he will be grateful for any crust of bread that you give him.
