Manwich,

I was listening to Saturday night's show via podcast, and a caller called in lauding the success of the death penalty, and I felt compelled to write you an email.  The call brought to mind the name of a woman named Joyce Gilchrist, who was fired in 2001 after working for at least 15 years as the head of forensic science in Oklahoma City.  So what was she fired for?

"Gilchrist has been repeatedly accused of false testimony and shoddy results in her work during the past 15 years. She has been involved in approximately 3,000 cases, including at least 23 cases where defendants were eventually sentenced to death and have either been executed or remain on death row. "   (1)

Upon further googling, I discovered that during her tenure, 11 people were sentenced to death and executed before discovering this woman's wrongdoings.

No mention was made as to whether further investigation into these people's executions revealed any evidence as to their innocence, but that should come as little surprise to anyone familiar with government policy.

Your friend and copatriot,

P.P.S.  If you don't trust the links, you can find most of this stuff via the first page of google after googling "Joyce Gilchrist".
